I have been teaching and performing as a local drummer in Southern California for over twenty-five years. My goal is to teach my students the same things that worked for me: less means more and timing and groove are everything. I focus on rudiments, basic reading, dynamics, and double bass and expose my students to every style of music and drumming. My goal for my students is to help them make any band they play with sound great.
My influences are Steve Gadd, Gregg Bissonette, Luis Conte, John and Jason Bonham and Thomas Lang. For additional information about me, please access my personal MySpace page.
For lessons with me, please contact Mike’s Drum Shop at 805-962-1211 or e-mail at

George began his relationship with Mike’s Drum Shop in 1973 as a five year old drum student of Mike’s. Over the years he became an employee and right hand man to Mike. While in his early 20’s George’s band Dishwalla gained international notoriety by having the number one rock song of 1996 with the hit song Counting Blue Cars. While enjoying the success of a hit song George was also recognized by his peers by winning a spot in Modern Drummer Magazine’s readers poll Best Up and Coming Rock Drummer category.
Now his band The Penfifteen Club writes songs for television and movies, including the hit song Miss Hilton from the reality show The Simple Life. After touring around the world for several years George came back to Santa Barbara to buy Mike’s Drum Shop. It is full circle to come back to the place that gave him the ability and opportunity to achieve his musical goals and help to continue that legacy for many more generations.

Mark Cavanaugh - Cymbal Vault Partner
I got my first paying gig at the age of 15 playing Dixie Land Jazz with the Seattle Banjo Club at Shakey’s Pizza Parlors. Later, I paid for college playing the Phoenix resort circuit. During a business career, I continued playing gigs and have had the pleasure of playing with many musicians who I somewhat jokingly say used to play with acts that used to be famous.
My faded glory tour has included stints in bands with ex-members of bands such as Bobby “Blue” Bland, Alice Cooper, Moby Grape, the Troggs and Johnny Mathis. I retired from my day job and am proud to be a part of the staff at Mike’s Drum Shop as a partner in the Cymbal Vault.
